Each Prosthetic Limb is custom made. So it has to be prepared for a specific person. A Prosthetist prepares the Prosthetic Limb. They have to go through many steps to make one Prosthetic Limb. They must take very detailed measurements from the patient. The Prosthetist must meet with the doctor before the doctor puts the Prosthetic Limb on the patient. Several weeks after the amputation surgery, a plaster mold is taken of the residual limb. The mold is used for a temporary. The residual limb is then used to test the fit of the prosthetic limb as its being built. Today they use technology to get the measurements. After they get it on, it is very important to go to physical therapy. For leg prostheses, they will need to adjust and learn how to walk with it. The patient must continue to visit their Prosthetist for the rest of their life.
